Uttalandet stötte på skarp kritik, bl.a. från Spaniens premiärminister Sanchez som kommenterade: ”This is not about an old order versus a new order but about international order versus international disorder.”
Von der Leyen backade två dagar senare och förklarade EU:s ”unwavering commitment to the UN Charter, international law and the multilateral system.”
