Like many punters who have tried to do business with Donald Trump in the past, the UN has found itself a victim of a classic bait-and-switch, thinking it was buying one thing, but getting quite another.

When they voted to endorse the board of peace in November, other members of the UN security council hoped they were binding Trump into a Gaza peace process, but it now appears they were hoodwinked into backing a Trump-dominated pay-to-play club: a global version of his Mar-a-Lago court aimed at supplanting the UN itself.

The outline of Trump’s “board of peace” which has emerged over the past few days is a long way from the body that the council thought it was endorsing. Resolution 2803 was passed 13-0, with Russia and China abstaining, as an attempt to give a UN imprimatur to a Trump-brokered ceasefire in Gaza. The discussions leading up to the vote on 18 November, and the text of the resolution, were all about the conflict. […]

Two months on, there is not a single mention of Gaza in the “board of peace” charter sent out to national capitals. That document instead portrays the board as a permanent fixture to promote peace and good governance around the world. It will be “pragmatic” and “results-oriented”, it will be “a more nimble and effective international peace-building body”, and will have “the courage to depart from approaches and institutions that have too often failed”. Joining the board, on the other hand, involves undermining the UN, submission to Trump’s will and acquiescence in his vision of future of world governance – an imperial court where vassal states pay cash and vie for the ear of the orange emperor. Läs artikel

The Danish Defence continues its increased presence in Greenland and, over the coming period, is conducting the exercise Arctic Endurance in the Arctic and the North Atlantic together with NATO Allies.

The activities in Greenland are a continuation of the Danish Defence’s reinforced presence in Greenland, which began in 2025. Last year, the increased presence in Greenland also included contributions from several NATO partners.

The increased presence in Greenland is a consequence of the changed security policy situation, which places new demands on the defence of the Arctic and the North Atlantic by Denmark and NATO.

Exercise Arctic Endurance continues to develop. In the past week, several NATO countries have conducted initial planning visits to Greenland. Reconnaissance teams from the participating nations have examined practical conditions related to terrain, accommodation, transportation, as well as logistical and planning aspects. Some reconnaissance teams have returned home to continue further planning, while contributions from other nations remain in Greenland, where planning of upcoming activities continues. On Tuesday, Parliament’s Defence Committee received a briefing on current security policy issues from Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen (Parliamentary Group of the National Coalition Party). The discussions focused on Greenland, but the meeting also addressed damaged underwater cables in the Baltic Sea as well as Ukraine.

The main message from Committee Chair Heikki Autto (Parliamentary Group of the National Coalition Party) is that Finland’s bilateral defence cooperation with the United States continues on a stable footing and that the diplomatic dispute surrounding Greenland does not undermine the foundations of the bilateral defence relationship.

“Foreign-policy and diplomatic themes have been conflated with defence issues in ways that are unrelated. Cooperation is nevertheless proceeding as agreed. Finland has major defence procurement projects and defence cooperation initiatives under way, and their implementation is important both for Finland and for NATO’s European pillar as a whole,” he stated.

Autto and the Defence Committee’s Vice Chair, Mikko Savola (Centre Party Parliamentary Group), see several ways to ease the tensions that have arisen around Greenland and to strengthen Arctic security. According to Autto, Finland’s starting point is international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

“Only the people of Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark can decide on Greenland’s constitutional status. Finland supports international law and Denmark’s sovereignty,” Autto summed up.

Savola, for his part, proposed a continuous, rotational military presence in the Arctic region as an instrument of stability and deterrence.  Both also stressed open diplomacy towards the United States to resolve misunderstandings and help defuse the situation. Läs pressmeddelande

Ett balanserat försvar är mest inriktat på markförsvar. Alla krig vinns på marken. Ett uthålligt försvar skulle också ge oss en annan sorts försvarsindustri. Nu riskerar Saabs och Bofors’ vapen att bidra till krig i Mellanöstern, Sudan och Thailand. De bidrar också till en elakartad korruption, när fattiga länder använder sina pengar till svenska vapen istället för fattigdomsbekämpning. […]

Ett återinförande av allmän värnplikt kan däremot vara positivt för att minska klyftorna. Vi äldre som gjort lumpen vet att man kan bli vän med folk som kommer från en helt annan miljö och som man aldrig skulle träffat annars. Det är dyrt, ja.  Men effektivare utbildning skulle kunna ske på kortare tid. Den del som kallas kadaverdisciplin är värdelös i krig och därför inget att slösa tid på.  Läs artikel

The response to Trump’s latest Truth Social post over Greenland should resemble that of U.S. Secretary of State Cordell Hull to the Japanese diplomatic note after Pearl Harbor:

”In all my 50 years of public service I have never seen a document that was more crowded with infamous falsehoods and distortions — on a scale so huge that I never imagined until today that any government on this planet was capable of uttering them,” said Hull.

And while unfortunately we have become quite accustomed to governments on this planet uttering falsehoods, as far as I can see Trump has now gone further in mendacity than any previous U.S. President. According to his latest post:

“China and Russia want Greenland, and there is not a thing that Denmark can do about it…Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, The United Kingdom, The Netherlands, and Finland have journeyed to Greenland, for purposes unknown. This is a very dangerous situation for the Safety, Security, and Survival of our Planet. These Countries, who are playing this very dangerous game, have put a level of risk in play that is not tenable or sustainable.

Therefore, it is imperative that, in order to protect Global Peace and Security, strong measures be taken so that this potentially perilous situation end quickly, and without question.” Läs artikel

As members of NATO, we are committed to strengthening Arctic security as a shared transatlantic interest. The pre-coordinated Danish exercise „Arctic Endurance“ conducted with Allies, responds to this necessity. It poses no threat to anyone.

Under lördagseftermiddagen svensk tid meddelade USA:s president Donald Trump att de länder som skickat militär personal till Grönland kommer straffas med en tioprocentig tull på alla varor som exporteras till USA.

”Denna tull kommer att gälla och betalas tills dess att ett fullständigt och totalt köp av Grönland genomförts”, skriver Trump i sitt inlägg.

Nu kommenterar statsminister Ulf Kristersson Trumps besked.

”Vi låter oss inte utpressas. Bara Danmark och Grönland bestämmer i frågor som rör Danmark och Grönland. Jag kommer alltid stå upp för mitt land, och för våra allierade grannar. Detta är en EU-fråga som rör många fler länder än de som nu pekas ut. Sverige har nu intensiva diskussioner med andra EU-länder, Norge och Storbritannien för ett samlat svar” skriver Kristersson till TV4 Nyheterna. Läs artikel

President Donald J. Trump, ledare för NATOS största militära nationella kontingent, har krävt att få äga Grönland, ett territorium som är en del av NATO-allierade kungariket Danmark men har ett långtgående självstyre. Trump har vidhållit att han ”måste” ha Grönland och inga förhandlingslösningar har bitit. Topplocket verkar nu ha gått på Trump när hans NATO-allierade genomför en gemensam NATO-övning för att stärka säkerheten i Arktis. De medverkande NATO-allierade skall straffas med tullar på alla varor som exporteras till USA.

I skrivande stund har både Emmanuel Macron och Keir Starmer kallat Trumps hot om höjda tullar mot vissa europeiska länder för totalt oacceptabelt och malplacerat. Regeringsföreträdare i Tyskland – som inte är direkt berörda – meddelar att de förutsätter ett gemensamt europeiskt svar. Europeiska rådet och kommissionen har meddelat att den territoriella integriteten för medlemsländerna är okränkbar och att man är bestämd i att samordnat försvara den nationella suveräniteten. Trump är en gangster, en flåbuse på ren svenska, och han agerar som en sådan. Han är just nu starkast på den här gatan och då får alla andra finna sig i det. I alla fall enligt honom själv. Det är just för att motverka sådana här maktfullkomliga despoter vi har folkrätten, den internationella regelstyrda ordningen. Amid reports of a potential United States military intervention to halt the killings of protesters in Iran, the Security Council today heard harrowing testimony from Iranian journalists who said they had been targeted for assassination and tortured by their own Government, as Washington, D.C., made clear to Tehran that “all options are on the table to stop the slaughter”.

Demonstrations in Iran began in late December 2025 amid economic pressures, including inflation, rising food prices and currency depreciation. They were followed by a broad security response, with reports indicating casualties among protesters.

The meeting, requested by the United States, underscored the urgency of the crisis.  Its representative said the violence and repression the Iranian regime has unleashed against its own people have repercussions for international peace and security and therefore require the Council’s attention.

“President Donald J. Trump and the United States of America stands by the brave people of Iran,” he said.  Rejecting the regime’s claim that the protests are a foreign plot and a pretext for military action, he said the Iranian authorities advance “this lie” because of the power of the Iranian people in the streets.  “They are afraid of their own people,” he observed.  While Iran claims to be ready for dialogue, he said, its actions tell a different story.  “Enough is enough […] President Trump is a man of action, not endless talk like we see at the United Nations,” he stressed, adding that the President has made it clear that “all options are on the table to stop the slaughter, and no one should know that better than the leadership of the Iranian regime”.

Hur många svenskar känner egentligen till DCA-avtalet (Defence cooperation agreement)? Avtalet mellan Sverige och USA ger sedan sommaren 2024 USA exklusivt tillträde till 17 militära områden i Sverige, och fria möjligheter att förvara vilka vapen de vill där, utan något förbehåll för kärnvapen och utan att vi själva kan inspektera vad som finns och vad som sker där. Amerikanska styrkor får röra sig fritt på svenskt territorium. […]

Många har kanske tidigare hållit med om vissa invändningar mot DCA-avtalet, men menat att Sveriges säkerhet går före. Nu inser nog allt fler hur orimligt avtalet är, även ur svensk och nordisk säkerhetssynpunkt.

USA är inte längre demokratins främsta väktare, om landet ens någonsin varit det, utan ett globalt hot mot fred och demokrati. Att, såsom Sverige har gjort, upplåta sitt territorium till en oberäknelig, illvillig och instabil kärnvapenmakt, utan något som helst motkrav, och därmed göra sig till ett redskap för denna supermakts intressen, är helt obegripligt i ljuset av den aktuella utvecklingen. Säg därför upp DCA-avtalet, helst tillsammans med Danmark, Norge och Finland, som har liknande avtal med USA. Den formella bindningstiden på tio år (!) kan inte tillåtas utgöra något hinder, när USA hotar att invadera vårt grannland! Läs artikel

EU och det sydamerikanska handelsblocket Mercosur planerar att underteckna ett historiskt handelsavtal på lördag. Det efter över ett kvarts sekel av förhandlingar. Avtalet skapar en frihandelszon för över 700 miljoner människor. Det innebär att nästan alla tullar mellan blocken avvecklas, rapporterar Financial Times.

Men bara dagar före underskriften har Donald Trumps handelsrådgivare riktat skarp kritik mot överenskommelsen.

USA anklagar EU för att försöka säkra en monopolställning för europeiska ostar och köttprodukter på den sydamerikanska marknaden.

”Detta är ett uppenbart försök att begränsa konkurrensen och exportmöjligheter för leverantörer utanför EU att handla rättvist på denna stora mejeri- och köttmarknad”, säger en amerikansk tjänsteman till FT.

Kärnan i den amerikanska kritiken är avtalets skydd för över 340 europeiska produkter med så kallat geografiskt ursprungsbeteckning. Bland dessa finns produkter som prosciutto di Parma, fetaost och champagne.  Enligt USA skulle detta låsa ute amerikanska producenter från att sälja liknande produkter under dessa namn på den sydamerikanska marknaden.

Kritiken kommer när de transatlantiska handelsspänningarna ökar mellan Washington och Bryssel. Detta samtidigtter att Trump-administrationen förra året tvingades betala ut tolv miljarder dollar i stöd till amerikanska bönder som drabbats av presidentens handelskrig. Läs artikel
