Explanation of Vote by Sweden at the General Assembly on the Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice, government.se

Sweden voted in favour of the resolution on the Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice and would like to take this opportunity to reconfirm our unequivocal support for the International Court of Justice as the principal judicial organ of the United Nations and full respect for its independence and the functions assigned to it under the Charter of the United Nations and its Statute. Our vote in favour of the resolution also reflects Sweden’s firm support of the broader UN system and humanitarian organisations in their essential efforts to address the needs of the population. Sweden remains committed to safeguarding their capacity to operate, in Palestine and elsewhere. Sweden has been clear that UNRWA needs to address several challenges, including on safeguarding its neutrality.
