NATO may accelerate forward deployment of nuclear forces, chinamil.com.cn

Recent developments indicate that the US and France are seeking to bring more European countries into their nuclear deterrence framework. An increasing number of European countries are also taking concrete steps to join multilateral nuclear planning mechanisms and even the US-led NATO nuclear-sharing arrangement. This trend will heighten the risk of nuclear conflict and bring far-reaching negative implications to regional security.

The US intends to expand the scope of its nuclear-sharing mechanism and nuclear weapons deployments. Currently, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Türkiye have participated in the mechanism. These six countries are authorized to deploy dual-capable aircraft (DCA) with both nuclear and conventional strike capabilities, as well as nuclear weapons under the full control of the US. According to public information […]

France is actively advancing the sharing of its ”nuclear umbrella.” Against the backdrop of growing uncertainty over the US commitment to European defense, France unveiled its ”forward deterrence” nuclear initiative in early March this year, establishing partnerships with eight countries: the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, Sweden and Denmark. On May 27, Norway officially joined the initiative. On July 17, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that Germany would, for the first time, send conventional forces to participate in French nuclear exercises later this year. Läs artikel

Kyiv’s former top commander says NATO is too outdated for Ukraine, politico.eu

The unusual rebuke reflects a growing shift in the country’s relationship with NATO, with Kyiv increasingly seen as a vital European security provider.

NATO’s reliance on the ”doctrines of World War II” and its slow adaptation to new forms of warfare make it unlikely Ukraine will ever join the alliance, said Kyiv’s Ambassador to the U.K. and former Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi.

”For 12 years, I must have personally been working to ensure that we mastered NATO standards, and every year I listened to tales that we were about to join NATO. Unfortunately, we will never join it,” Zaluzhnyi privately told Ukrainian ambassadors in Kyiv on Monday, according to Ukrainian media.

Although ”Ukraine needs technologies that are still available in NATO countries today,” like defenses against ballistic missiles, he said, ”it is impossible to join an organization that possesses the doctrines of World War II with the level of development that exists in the armed forces of Ukraine.” […]

Zaluzhnyi’s unusual rebuke underscores a growing change in the alliance’s relationship with Ukraine. The country has shifted from relying on European military support in the early years of the war to becoming one the continent’s most powerful and technologically advanced militaries — far ahead of Western forces in the mass production of drones, missiles and other key systems. […]

As a result, Zaluzhnyi said, Ukraine would instead opt to ”be tied to blocs and alliances that will probably be formed,” citing the Joint Expeditionary Force — a 10-nation U.K.-led grouping of mainly Nordic and Baltic countries established in 2014 and designed to complement NATO.

”Most likely, we will talk about a European military security bloc,” added Zaluzhnyi.

Trump vil overtage Grønland inden 2029, nyheder.tv2.dk

Du vil få ret, svarer Trump i programmet.

Arctic Security Activity Accelerates as Norway, U.S. and NATO Deepen High North Cooperation, en.highnorthnews.com

From joint coast guard interoperability exercises in the North Atlantic to advanced unmanned maritime testing in northern Norway and new alliance-wide initiatives spanning the Arctic, the past several weeks have highlighted an increasingly coordinated Western approach to security in Europe’s northern waters.

The latest U.S.-Norwegian Coast Guard cooperation concluded in mid-July as crews aboard the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Stone and the Norwegian Coast Guard vessel Hopen completed Operation Arctic Cohesion 2026, a week-long interoperability exercise conducted off New England and in Newport, Rhode Island.

The July 8-15 exercise focused on crew exchanges, joint seamanship training and discussions on Arctic coast guard operations, while observers from Canada and Finland attended to capture lessons for the wider Arctic Coast Guard Forum. […]

Earlier this year, NATO launched Arctic Sentry, a new enhanced vigilance activity intended to coordinate Allied operations across the High North under a single operational framework. The alliance has also established Forward Land Forces Finland and launched Task Force X-Arctic, an initiative that uses networked autonomous systems to improve situational awareness across the North Atlantic and Arctic. En bok om det ofrånkomliga kriget

Rolf Andersson
